SDMS™ NT ASPI for Windows NT 4.0NT ASPI is a software support package based on the "ASPI for Win32", version 2.0 specification, which should be referred to for additional information. The ASPI software provides a mechanism used by Windows applications as an interface to access SCSI adapters and peripherals. This document includes these topics: The NT ASPI software supports these features:
NT ASPI is designed to the Advanced SCSI Programming Interface (ASPI) version 2.0 specification. Windows applications can use this interface to gain access to system SCSI devices. Applications using this interface can retrieve information about installed SCSI adapters and the SCSI peripherals attached to the adapters. Applications using the ASPI interface can issue SCSI I/O requests to the devices. Typical of these type of applications are utility programs that investigate and explore SCSI devices, or, applications such as CD-R mastering software and scanner applications. Note that NT ASPI is one method to use for gaining access to SCSI devices; the other method would be to use SCSI pass-through commands. NT ASPI is comprised of two modules:
Applications, using ASPI only, interface with the user mode DLL. The DLL passes commands and requests to the kernel mode device driver, which in turn interfaces with the Windows NT operating system for execution of the request. Note that non-administrator users can now open the kernel mode driver. To install NT ASPI for x86 platforms, execute the InstallShield setup program. If you obtained the software from the LSI Logic web site, it will be in the form of a self-extracting zip file. Expand the zip file into a directory on your hard disk drive, or to a diskette, and then run SETUP.EXE. Otherwise, the SDMS Software Device Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM contains the NT ASPI software. If you are using a Windows-based operating system and Internet Explorer to view this page, then click here to install ASPI support for Windows NT 4.0. If you are not using Internet Explorer to view this page, then execute the SETUP.EXE file on the CD-ROM from the following location: {CD-ROM Drive Letter}:\UTILITY\WINDOWS\NTASPI\I386\SETUP.EXE The setup program installs the NT ASPI files into the proper directories as well as making the appropriate registry entries. After installing the software, you must reboot the computer. Command Line Options There are no command line options with the NT ASPI software.
