Installation Guide for the SDMS™ NetWare DMI 2.0 Component Instrumentation

The SDMS NetWare Distributed Management Interface (DMI) 2.0 Component Instrumentation (CI) runs as a NetWare Loadable Module (NLM). It reports asset and configuration information for the adapters and devices controlled by the SDMS NetWare device drivers.

Features

The SDMS Netware DMI CI Service supports these features:

  • Dynamic AMS support for LanDesk 3.0

If AMS for LanDesk 3.0 is present, then the CI will register with it. If AMS for LanDesk 3.0 is not present, then the CI will still load and function correctly.

  • 4.XX-based NetWare drivers
  • 5.XX-based NetWare drivers
  • SYMHINW.HAM driver, which supports the LSI53C896 device and LSI22910, LSI21002, and LSI22902 host adapter boards.

Note: All LSI Logic devices and host adapters have undergone a name change. They have transitioned from a SYM prefix to an LSI prefix. No name change has occurred for the SDMS NetWare driver.

Hardware Requirements

The component instrumentation works with all LSI Logic PCI to SCSI I/O processors that are supported by the SDMS BIOS and drivers.

The component instrumentation is designed to work with devices that are SCSI-2 compliant. Devices that are not compliant with this specification are likely to report incorrectly with the component instrumentation.

Software Requirements

The component instrumentation software requirements are:

  • A DMI 2.0 service provider
  • Version 4.04.00 or higher of the SDMS SYM8XXNW.HAM driver or version 4.06.00 or higher of the SDMS SYMHINW.HAM driver
  • For rescan support, version 4.06.00 of the SDMS SYM8XXNW.HAM driver or version 4.06.00 of the SDMS SYMHINW.HAM driver

  1. Copy symbios2.mif to the system\dmi\netware\mifs\backup directory.
  1. Copy symcinw2.nlm to the system directory.
  1. Load the NetWare CI after the 2.0 Service Provider has loaded. Type at the prompt:
