It reports asset and configuration information for the adapters and devices controlled by the various SDMS NT/Windows 2000 device drivers. This file contains the following information: o Features o Hardware requirements o Software requirements o Installation instructions ********************************** Features ********************************* Refer to the release definition for more detailed explanations about these new features: o Added support for the SYM_U3 miniport driver (LSI53C1010). o Added support for the SYM_895A miniport driver (LSI53C895A for Windows 2000) o Added support for running domain validation on the LSI53C1010. o Added support for the SYMI2OM miniport driver (LSIF909). o Added support for populating the Event System attribute for Device and Controller Events. o Report additional information through the Symbios Flag attribute in the Symbios Event Polling group. o Added support for two time-stamping attributes in the Symbios Health group. *************************** Hardware Requirements ************************** At least one host adapter from the LSI53C8XX family, the LSI53C1010, or the LSIFC909 with at least one storage device active. *************************** Software Requirements ************************** The component instrumentation software requirements are: o DMI 2.0 Service Provider installed and active. o Runs with LanDesk version 2.8 or higher. o Version 4.04.03 or higher of the SYMC8XX.SYS driver or Version 4.06.00 or higher of the SYM_HI.SYS driver or Version 5.01.00 or higher of the SYM_U3.SYS driver or Version 4.14.00 or higher of the SYM_895A.SYS driver or Version 4.03.00 or higher of the SYMI2OM.SYS driver ********** Installation Instructions for Windows NT or Windows 2000 ********* The DMI 2.0 Service Provider needs to be installed prior to installing the SDMS CI. INSTALLING THE CI SERVICE USING THE INSTALLSHIELD ================================================= The CI is installed by executing an InstallShield setup program. If you receive this program on diskette or CD-ROM, simply run "setup" to install the files into the proper directories. The setup program installs the CI files into the proper directories as well as making the appropriate registry entries. After installing the software, you must reboot the computer. To verify the installation of the files, follow these instructions: 1. Make sure that Symbios.mif has been copied to the %WIN32DMIPATH%\mifs\backup\ directory. Note the DMI 2.0 Service Provider creates the WIN32DMIPATH environment variable. 2. Make sure the symcint2.exe program has been copied to the %WIN32DMIPATH%\bin\ or to the directory of your choice. 3. If System Logging is desired, then verify that LSImsg.dll has been copied to the %WIN32DMIPATH%\bin\ directory. If System Logging is not desired, then remove LSImsg.dll from the %WIN32DMIPATH%\bin\ directory. MANUALLY INSTALLATION ===================== 1. Copy Symbios.mif to the %WIN32DMIPATH%\mifs\backup\ directory. Note the DMI 2.0 Service Provider creates the WIN32DMIPATH environment variable. 2. Copy symcint2.exe program to the %WIN32DMIPATH%\bin\ or to the directory of your choice. 3. If System Logging is desired, then copy LSImsg.dll to the %WIN32DMIPATH%\bin\ directory. 4. Open a command prompt window. 5. Change the directory to where symcint2.exe resides. 6. Install the symcint2.exe as a Service by executing symcint2 -install 7. Reboot the system. INSTALL NOTES: ============== 1. The service that symcint2.exe is installed as is configured for a manual start. Be sure the DMI 2.0 Service Provider service has started before starting this service. 2. If AMS support is desired make sure the LANDESK Alert and Message services has started before starting this service. 3. For Windows NT, start the CI service by clicking on Start-->Control Panel--> Services. Select "Symbios NT 2.0 CI Service." Click on the Start button. For Windows 2000, start the CI service by clicking on Start-->Control Panel -->Administrative Tools-->Services. Select "Symbios NT 2.0 CI Service." Click on the Start button. 4. To stop the CI, go into Services (as specified above). Select "Symbios NT 2.0 CI Service." Click on the Stop button.
