***************************************************************************** BLDSOL.TXT ***************************************************************************** SDMS PCI SYMHISL Driver Update Building the SYMHISL Driver Update Diskette To create a SYMHISL diskette for Solaris 7 or Solaris 8 installations, copy the raw symitu.dd image file onto a 1.44 Mbytes diskette. This process is dependent upon the operating system that you are using to create this diskette. Refer to the instructions for UNIX System and DOS System Users. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * For UNIX System Users Follow these steps to create the SYMHISL Driver Update diskette: 1. Insert a 3.5-inch diskette into the floppy drive. 2. At the UNIX prompt, type: #volcheck -v #dd if=//symitu.dd of=/vol/dev/aliases/floppy0 bs=36k #eject floppy The is where the dd image is located. The SDMS Software Device Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM contains the symitu.dd image file in this directory: {UNIX CD-ROM path}/drivers/8xx-1010/unixes/solaris/solaris7 or {UNIX CD-ROM path}/drivers/8xx-1010/unixes/solaris/solaris8 This command will dd the image to the diskette to create a SYMHISL Driver Update diskette. 3. Label this diskette SYMHISL Driver Update. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * For DOS System Users Under this section, DOS system users have two choices: 1. Use a utility that will copy the raw dd image onto a 1.44 Mbytes diskette. The SDMS Software Device Drivers and Utilities CD-ROM contains the symitu.dd image file in this directory: {DOS CD-ROM path}:\DRIVERS\8XX-1010\UNIXES\SOLARIS\SOLARIS7 or {DOS CD-ROM path}:\DRIVERS\8XX-1010\UNIXES\SOLARIS\SOLARIS8 RAWRITE3.COM, which is a public domain utility, is available on this CD-ROM in this directory: {DOS CD-ROM path}:\DRIVERS\8XX-1010\UNIXES\RAWRITE3.COM Instructions for using this utility are included in its accompanying RAWRITE3.DOC file. 2. The other DOS alternative is to use the self-extracting image file that is located on the SDMS CD-ROM: {DOS CD-ROM path}:\DISKIMAG\SOLARIS7.EXE or {DOS CD-ROM path}:\DISKIMAG\SOLARIS8.EXE After the image has been copied to a 3.5-inch diskette, use this SYMHISL Driver Update diskette for Solaris 7 or Solaris 8 installations as instructed.
