It reports asset and configuration information for the adapters and devices that are controlled by the LSI Logic Netware HAM drivers. This file contains the following information: o Hardware requirements o Software requirements o Release notes o Installation instructions *****************************Hardware Requirements****************************** The component instrumentation works with all LSI Logic PCI to SCSI I/O processors that are supported by the SDMS BIOS and drivers. It works with all SCSI-2 compliant storage devices. *****************************Software Requirements****************************** o A DMI 2.0 Service Provider. o Version 04.04.00 or higher of the LSI Logic SYM8XXNW.HAM driver or version 4.05.00 or higher of the LSI Logic SYMHINW.HAM driver. o For support of rescan, version 4.06.00 of the LSI Logic SYM8XXNW.HAM driver or version 4.06.00 of the LSI Logic SYMHINW.HAM driver. *****************************Release Notes ************************************* o Changes from release 2.08.06 - Added handling for Netware 5 Service Pack 2. - Added rescan support for Netware 4.x and 5.x. Rescan support allows for Component Instrumentation handling for the following events: - New Device Detected - Device Changed - Device Failed - Changed to report both the CI version and the MIF version (ComponentID.Version). - Added support for Symbios Health Group. The new attributes are: - Overall Health Status. It reports: o "OK" if the overall controller status and overall device status are "OK". o "Non-Recoverable" if either the overall controller status or the overall device status are "Non-Recoverable". o "Degraded" if either the overall controller status or the overall device status are "Degraded" and neither are "Non-Recoverable". - Overall Controller Status. Reports a possible solution for the problem that caused the event. o For a Storage Device Error Event the reported solution is: "1st: Check Cabling, 2nd: Power Cycle Device, Last: Replace Device." o For a Storage Device Warning Event the reported solution is: "Backup Data from Failing Device and Replace the Device" o For a Storage Controller Error Event the reported solution is: "1st: Check Cabling, 2nd: Power Cycle System, Last: Replace Controller." o For any of the Mass Storage Assocition Events the reported solutions is: "No Action is Required" - Instance Data Present. Indicates whether the second event block contains instance-specific data. For all types of events this field reports FALSE. - Event Message. Auxiliary information related to the event. o For a Storage Device Event the Controller Initiator ID, the Device Target ID, and the Device LUN are reported. o For a Storage Controller Event the Controller Initiator ID is reported. o For a device related Mass Storage Association Event the Controller Initiator ID, the Device Target ID, and the Device LUN are reported. o For a controller related Mass Storage Association Event the Controller Initiator ID is reported. - Definition was added to the value of the "Symbios Flag" attribute in the "Symbios Event Polling" group. - If Bit 0 is set it indicates a desire to log events to the System Log. - If Bit 1 is set it indicates a desire to use the AMS event APIs. - If Bit 2 is set it indicates a desire to use the HAPI event APIs. o Changes from release 2.08.05 - Added functionality to event logging to a separate file on the server. - Events created by standard event procedures will be enumerated to the LSIEVENT.LOG file, located on the SYS:\system directory of the server. This will be enabled if the Symbios Flag Group is enabled for logging events to the System Log. o Changes from release 2.06 - Added support for Symbios Health Group. Copy the symbios2.mif to the system\dmi\netware\mifs\backup directory. 2. Copy symcinw2.nlm to the system directory. 3. After the DMI 2.0 service provider has started, you can start the Netware CI by typing: load symcinw2.nlm You can stop the Netware CI by typing: unload symcinw2.nlm
